Match report Ryan Gilmour's devastating opening spell saw Thatcham romp to victory at Hurst on Saturday as Josh O'Flynn's side followed last week's defeat of Aldershot with another dominant display. Taking full advantage of the conditions, Gilmour's controlled swing and pace proved too hot for the Hurst top order, reducing the home side to 2 for 3 in their reply to Thatcham's 194. It was a position from which Hurst never fully recovered and with further wickets from Alex Wood (2-14) and Nick Bishop (2-21) they were finally dismissed for an under par 92. Gilmour's figures of 5-23 was just reward for his efforts and his form will give Thatcham plenty of confidence as their season finally begins to gather momentum.

Earlier, having lost what most thought to be a crucial toss, Thatcham struggled as the ball seamed prodigiously, and at 17-2 looked to be in a perilous position. But a battling middle order display, led by Jack Young's patient 55, saw the visitors recover to 150-4 thanks to key contributions from Jamie Young (21), Tom Mahoney (16) and Neil Prince's crucial 40. With the tail failing to wag, Thatcham eventually reached 194 and whilst they knew it to be a competitive total, they were disappointed not to take full advantage of the middle order's hard work. Any concerns however were soon put to bed following Gilmour's opening salvo and Thatcham will go into next week's game with Finchampstead full of confidence.
