Beaconsfield v Thatcham Town Cricket Club Thatcham 1XI- Saturday on Sat 14 Jul 2018 at 1pm
Thatcham Town Cricket Club Won by 6 wickets
Match report
Another great win for Thatcham over a very good Beaconsfield side by 6 wickets, sees Thatcham continue to climb up the table.
Beaconsfield won the toss and had no hesitation in batting first and they got off to a steady start thanks to some good new ball bowling. Green (0-26) bowled a tidy spell, keeping things tight off his 6 overs. Whilst at the other end Gilmore (2-27) threatened and got the big wicket of Nilesh Odedra LBW for 11, with the score on 36. A change of bowling saw Wright (1-43) replace Green, who had an immediate impact taking the edge of Kay for 1, with Jamie Young making no mistake behind with the catch. Gilmour continued at the other end and got further rewards, taking a brilliant caught and bowled to remove the dangerous Heavyside for 9.
Beaconsfield then began to rebuild with a partnership of 76, seeing the score up to 132-3 when the Thatcham spin duo of Chris Bird and Nick Bishop got into the act. Bird broke the partnership, when Stephens only managed to find the hands of Tom Mahoney for 46. Francis (49) then followed caught Gilmore bowled Bird, and Thatcham sensed an opportunity. Bishop then got in on the act claiming Keen, stumped for 2 bowling Marchant (0) in the same over. Bishop continued to trouble the Beaconsfield batsmen as he then took the wickets of Musk (1), caught Jamie Young and Randev (0), caught Bird. Chris Bird finished of the innings by finding the edge of Peace (7), which fell into the grateful hands of Jamie Young.
Beaconsfield collapsed from 132-4 to 148 all out within 46.4 overs, thanks largely to the efforts of Bird (3-19) and Bishop (4-19).
Thatcham’s reply got off to a shaky start as Lewis edged to slip for 0 in the second over leaving Thatcham 0-1. Jack Young joined Rhys Williams at the crease and the pair began to build a partnership after surviving the early Beaconsfield pressure. Williams displayed a fine array of strokes as Young nudged the ball around as the visitors looked comfortable in their chase. Williams past 50 and the pair brought up their 100 partnership before Williams edged behind to Randev for a fine 57. Jamie Young joined Jack Young at the crease, however it wasn’t long before the latter was on his way as Heavyside got a ball to shoot along the floor and hit Young on the pad, LBW for 43. Wright joined Jamie Young, however he was soon out caught for 4 off Stephens. That, however was the last wicket to fall as Jamie Young (27*) and Tom Mahoney (3*) saw Thatcham over the line in the 37th over to round of a comfortable win for the young Thatcham side.
Next week sees Thatcham host Wargrave as the Trouts look to put right their poor performance in the corresponding fixture earlier in the season.
