Match report Thatcham suffered a defeat away to Henley on Saturday by 142 runs.

Henley won the toss and chose to bat on a very flat looking wicket. Henley’s openers Michael Williams and Harry Jordan had put on 33 when Thatcham opening bowler Mike Green executed a very good caught and bowled to dismiss Jordan for 15. Ryan Gilmour ran out Ross Klusener with a brilliant direct hit for 44. Nick Bishop bowled Rhodri Lewis for 31. Nathan Hopkins came in and was in a hurry attacking the Thatcham bowling, eventually hitting 66 off 34 balls. Bishop had Williams caught behind by Jamie Young for 87. Gilmour came back into the Thatcham attack, getting Cameron Jacobsen caught Steve Bartholomew for 13 and Charlie Homewood caught Steve Bird for 1. Hopkins finished on 66 not out and Prakash Gurung 0 not out.

Thatcham openers Josh O’Flynn and Jack Young reached 39 when O’Flynn was caught by Hopkins off the bowling of Paul McCraw for 28. Rhys Williams was then trapped lbw McCraw. Jack Young soon followed lbw bowled Simon Wheeler for 12. Jamie Young and Steve Bartholomew had only added 12 when Bartholomew was unfortunately run out by Gurung for 10. Paul Hemming joined Young adding 20 until Young was caught in the deep by Chris Ellison bowled Jordan for 16. Hemming and Gilmour had reached a 20 partnership when Hemming was clean bowled by Jordan for 10. Ben Denton-Powell partnered Gilmour briefly until Gilmour was lbw Lewis for 16. Chris Bird was lbw Jacobsen for 5. Bishop was bowled Jacobsen for 5 and Green bowled Jordan for 1, leaving Denton-Powell stranded not out for 14. Seven Thatcham batsmen reached double figures but no one was able to go on and make a decent score. This really needs to change.
