Match report Thatcham suffered a 7 wicket home defeat to Reading on Saturday. Winning the toss Thatcham elected to bat, losing opener Josh O’Flynn in the third over, caught and bowled Liam Jones. Jack Young joined Rhys Williams in the middle. They took the score onto 26 before Williams was bowled Khalid Zafar Malik for 16. Young was then trapped lbw by Jack Beaven for 17. Beaven then claimed the wicket of Paul Hemming caught Waqas Ahmed. Steve Bartholomew was caught Amardeep Dosanjh off Malik’s bowling. Malik then bowled JamieYoung. Ryan Gilmour was bowled by Hamish Scott, who then also claimed the wicket of Tom Mahoney, caught Dosanjh for 20. Chris Bird and Ben Denton-Powell came together and built a partnership of 22 when Denton-Powell was caught Ahmed bowled Malik. Bird and Nick Bishop then set up a bit of rear guard action until Bird became Beaven’s third victim bowled for 25 leaving Bishop on 5 not out. Thatcham were all out for 120 off 47.5 overs.

Reading opened the batting with Sanjit Jheeta and Pavendeep Chima. Bishop got the break through in the fourth over getting Chima caught behind by Jamie Young for 11. Gilmour then claimed the wicket of Ahmed lbw for 10. Beaven joined Jheeta and together they took the score on until just 11 required when Hemming had Jheeta stumped by Jamie Young for 54. Beaven 39 not out and Ross McKnight 5 not out easily got Reading over the line to win by 7 wickets in 31.2 overs.
