Thatcham Town Cricket Club Lost by 44 runs

Match report Thatcham lost their final game of the season at home to Hurst by 44 runs. However, with achieving enough points and other results going their way, they managed to avoid relegation.

Hurst won the toss and chose to bat. Thatcham’s opening bowler Nathan Redmond picked up the first 3 wickets getting Sam Hawkes caught Josh O’Flynn for 2, Alex Kayser caught Rhys Williams for 19 and Tom Hibbs caught Chris Bird for 0. Oliver Lovegrove was brilliantly run out by Ben Denton-Powell for 11. A partnership of 61 was then added by Lewis Smith and Tim Walder when Smith was bowled O’Flynn for 65. Phil Higgs then joined Walder and they added 47 when Walder was caught Williams off O’Flynn for 39. Higgs and Nick Reynolds remained not out on 41 and 6 respectively. Hurst innings closed on 209 for 6 off their 50 overs.

Thatcham innings opened up with Ben Denton-Powell and Josh O’Flynn. They put on 37 when Denton-Powell was caught and bowled Nick Reynolds for 3. Rhys Williams joined O’Flynn but soon departed caught Phil Higgs for 4. O’Flynn was the third wicket to fall bowled Lewis Smith for 23. Jack Young and Rhys Lewis had put on 65 when Lewis was bowled Tom Walker for 29. The only other meaningful partnership was between Jack Young and Steve Bartholomew adding 38 when Bartholomew was caught Oliver Lovegrove off Smith for 12. Young was bowled Andrew Ruddock for 44 and Thatcham’s innings petered out for 165 all out off 48 overs.
