Match report Thatcham had a very welcome 4 wicket away win at Reading on Saturday.

Winning the toss Reading chose to bat. Ryan Gilmour claimed both openers, bowling Pavendeep Chima for 2 and having Sanjit Jheeta caught Steve Bartholomew for 11. Philip Brennan and Jack Beavan came together and added 86 when Beaven was bowled Rhys Lewis for 28. Nick Bishop bowled Rahul Barti for 14. Gilmour got the prize wicket of Brennan running him out for 73. Chris Bird then began to weave his magic getting the next 4 wickets Liam Jones lbw for 1, Amardeep Dosanjh caught and bowled for 18, Waqas Ahmad lbw for 0 and Khalad Malik caught Jack Young for 10. Hamish Scott was the last wicket to fall, run out Nick Bishop for 3. Atif Nasim remained 7 not out. Reading’s innings closed on 179 all out off 47.5 overs.

Rain delayed the start after tea, reducing the game to 47 overs apiece and giving Thatcham a revised total to chase of 176 runs.

Thatcham opened their innings with Ben Denton-Powell and Josh O’Flynn. With only 7 on the board Denton-Powell was bowled by Hamish Scott for 1. O’Flynn was joined by Rhys Williams. They added 44 when Williams was caught Beaven bowled Malik for 15. Jack Young and O’Flynn added 10 when O’Flynn was bowled by Scott for 38. Next wicket to fall was Rhys Lewis caught Dosanjh for 11. Jamie Young joined brother Jack at the crease adding 27 when Jack was lbw Malik for 14. Jamie Young and Steve Bartholomew added 30 when Bartholomew was caught and bowled by Jones for 12. With 39 required Gilmour joined Young at the crease and they got Thatcham over the line with one over to spare, Young finishing on 36 not out and Gilmour 26 not out.

Thatcham innings closed on 180 for 6.
