Wokingham 2 v Thatcham Town Cricket Club Thatcham 1XI- Saturday on Sat 08 Aug 2020 at 1:00pm
Thatcham Town Cricket Club Lost

Match report It was one half good and one half extremely bad for Thatcham as the batters let them down away at Wokingham on Saturday.

Having lost the toss, thatcham were fielding first and the new ball pair of Gilmour and Green were reunited for the first time this season. Both probed away on a good length before gilmour beat the defences of the Wokingham opener and trapped him LBW for 3, with the score on 25. Thatcham’s spinners were introduced into the game on a pitch which offered some turn. The combination of the youthful Lewis and the experienced Bird prevented the Wokingham batters getting on top. Lewis then took two wickets in an over as the dangerous Hayter went for 27 and then captain Fisher went without troubling the scorers, excellently caught at slip by Ijaz. It wasn’t long before Lewis struck again as he had Rintoul caught behind for 21. Then came Wokingham’s best spell with the bat as Myles and David Bishop got on top of the bowling. It took a mixup from the pair at the crease along with a sharp throw from Young to run out Bishop. Later in the same Bishop over Myles was caught smartly by Williams. Gilmour returned into the attack to complete his final overs and bambozled the batsman with his changes of pace and got a well deserved second wicket with a caught and bowled. Bishop took the 8th wicket for Thatcham with Young taking a catch running back over his shoulder. At this point thatcham were hoping to wrap up the innings for under 175, however the impressive Muirden walked to the crease and struck and quick-fire 30 to get the hosts up to 199-8 after 50 overs.

Next was to be the not so good part for Thatcham. Confident of chasing the runs down Lewis and Ijaz strolled our to the crease. However by the time the 4th over was complete both were caught playing aggressive shots with the score on 14-2. It was up to Young and Williams to build a partnership to get the innings back on track. A couple of lusty blows from the Thatcham skipper gave them some hope but when Williams (5), Wells (4), and Jamie Young (5) were all out before the 15 over mark things did not look great for thatcham at 54-5. Things were about to get even worse for the visitors as Young nicked off to Muirden for 27 and Gilmour soon followed as he was bowled for 0. Denton-Powell tried to rebuild the innings as the last recognised batsman however John McDonald introduction into the attack saw an end to Thatchams innings as he mopped up the final few wickets and Thatcham were all out for 68.

Thatcham will by looking to bounce back next weekend as they host Finchampstead at Brownsfield.
