Match report Thatcham suffered last over heartache as they lost by 2 wickets away at Binfield on Saturday.

Having been put into bat Thatcham got off to a flyer as the opening pair of Spriggs and Young raced to 35 off 5 overs before Young was caught off the bowling of Lancaster. The Binfield bowlers then got on top and Thatcham made slow progress with Wells (9) and Spriggs (24) falling just before drinks with the score on 78. Ijaz and Lewis then worked the ball around nicely and set up the innings for a late assault on the Binfield attack. Ijaz was caught after making 42. 15 year old Lewis carried on as he made his first 50 for the first team in excellent fashion. He was eventually caught for 59 off the bowling of Hayman. It was left to Jamie Young and Ryan Gilmour to finish the innings as they combined some heavy hitting with some good running to get the score up to 207-5 with Gilmour ending on 24*.

Thatcham started indifferently with the ball, but the once again impressive Gilmour got the breakthrough as he had Humphrey caught behind by Young. Denton-Powell then picked up the second wicket shortly after as his bouncer was too quick for Morgan. Bird then got Staves well caught at slip and Thatcham believed they were on top. However, some indifferent fielding combined with some bad fortune saw Lamprecht (73) and Andrews (53) put on what proved to be a match winning partnership. Ijaz finally got the wicket of Lamprecht caught by Wells, which sparked a collapse. Ijaz then removed Andrews and Clouting (27), whilst Lewis took two quick wickets leaving Binfield 8 down still requiring 15 runs off 3 overs. However, the Binfield pair managed to see there side home with just 4 balls remaining.

A disappointing afternoon for Thatcham and a game which they should be winning. However they look to bounce back next week at Brownsfield as they play an in form Hurst side.
