Match report Thatcham took a Sunday 2nd XI up to neighbour Falkland on Sunday and came away with a solid seven wicket victory.
Having been afforded the luxury of running out on the main ground, Thatcham were put into the field in a 35 overs per side fixture with both sides fielding a balanced mix of U13 / U15 and seniors.
Opening bowlers Oscar Moore (6 overs, 2 for 6) and Benedict Robinson (6 overs, 0 for 18) gave nothing away in their first spell and Falkland openers Bobby Brown and Mabbatt had to work hard for runs.
Brown, in particular showed good patience and, despite losing his partner Mabbatt (18) to a creative stumping by Chris Rochfort off Pat Slevin (2 for 17) and J McCormack next ball for a duck, carried his bat for a well deserved 33 not out before retiring as per agreed match regulations.
Langdon and Seaward (26 not out) worked hard against Thatcham’s change bowlers and a quick fire 13 from Chris Brown enabled the home side to finish on 138 for 7 off their 35 over allocation.
Olly Thorne, Sachin Anand and Harley Sheridan-Hawkins all bowled tightly and Odhinn Moore picked up Langdon (20) in a short two over burst, finishing with 1 for 7.
After the interval, Thatcham’s openers Sheridan-Hawkins (33 retired) and Odhinn Moore (31 retired) combined some useful attack with caution and picking off singles to set the foundation with a fine half century undefeated opening stand before Calum Scott strode to the wicket and take the game away from Falkland with a punishing 30 retired including four boundaries and two monster ‘sixes’.
Mabbatt stuck to his line and length though and clawed Falkland back into the game for a while with a fine spell of 2 for 22 from 5 overs before Sachin Anand (18 not out) and Robinson (13 not out) saw Thatcham to victory in the 22nd over.
