Match report Thatcham fell to a disappointing 6 wicket defeat away at Binfield on Saturday in a 38 over a side game reduced due to rain.

Thatcham were put into bat having lost the toss. Openers O’flynn and Williams started cautiously as they looked to set a solid foundation. O’Flynn (13) was the first man to go with the score on 24, looking to be more expansive. That brought Young to the crease, who looked to be busy and rotate the strike. He and Williams settled quickly and soon took the attack to the bowlers. At 143-1 after 26 overs thatcham were flying, but then rain intervened. With the game then reduced to 38 overs per side, thatcham looked to put their foot on the accelerator before the 147 run partnership was broken as Williams was run out for a very well made 90. Young soon followed as he was out for 68. Some lusty blows from Gilmour (26*) and Spriggs (13*) saw thatcham up to 222-3 off their 38 overs. This was increased to 235 after DLS was applied.

Binfield’s reply started well as they took on the youthful thatcham attack. Lamprecht passed 50 as binfield were cruising. It took the introduction of Bird (3-27) to make the breakthrough as he first removed Lamprecht (64) LBW and had Humphrey (48) caught in quick succession. Binfield rebuilded quickly before Bird got his 3rd wicket caught by Williams. However, the hosts counter acted again as Gilbert took the game away from thatcham with a 21 ball 42. O’Flynn finally removed Gilbert, but it was too little too late as Binfield knocked off the winning runs.

Thatcham will look to bounce back next week as they are at home to Reading and will also welcome back their supporters after the latest government announcement.
