West Drayton 211 - 9 beat Thatcham 4th XI 121 all out by 90 runs



After last weeks outstanding victory, Thatcham’s 4th XI found the going much harder against a strong West Drayton side on Saturday.
Batting first, the Middlesex outfit confidently went about their business scoring steadily despite solid opening spells from Nathan Redmond (2 for 39) and Dinusha Dissanayaka. A flurry of boundaries amidst some lusty blows looked certain to doom Thatcham to a daunting run chase, but they managed to pull themselves back into the game as wickets began to fall at regular intervals. Shaun Amor picked up two wickets on his return to the side but it was Dissanayaka (4-58) who proved the pick of the attack. Mick Stone (1-36) picked up the other West Drayton wicket before the home side declared on a sporting 211 for 9.
In reply, Thatcham never really got going despite several batsmen making promising starts. Dissanayaka (17) and Bill Fry (22) both looked comfortable but the steady fall of wickets left Thatcham with little choice but to battle out for a draw. Nathan Redmond (18 not out) and skipper Piers Bragg gamely hung on but with just 9 deliveries to go Bragg was bowled and west Drayton recorded a deserved victory. Thatcham will hope to get back to winning ways when they entertain Caversham & Readingensians at Henwick on Saturday.
