The weather was ok even if the wicket looked dubious. With a batting line up that was strong down to number 11 it was still against the better judgement of the senior players in the team that the Thatcham skipper decided to bat when he won the toss. It was a decision that looked like it would haunt him when the team stood at 2 for 2 in the second over.

However Dave Taylor steadied the ship building a 75 3rd wicket partnership with Neil Stevenson (33) and a 70 5th wicket partnership with Kelvin Aubry (32) on route to an excellent 68, including 11 4s. Good lower order contributions from Nathan Redmond (14) and Dinusha Dissanayake (14 not out) allowed the Thatcham skipper, Piers Bragg (16 not out), to declare the innings at 218 for 8 after 41 overs.

With another excellent tea and moral revived after the early scare, Thatcham took the field knowing the game was there to be won.

Nathan Redmond took first blood in the 4th over with an edge to keeper Dave Taylor being the first of 2 he held. As Redmond took a second in his 6 over spell the Dissanayake show was also underway by the 12th over with Shinfield standing at 38 for 3. Over the last 4 overs of his 10 over spell, Dinusha Dissanayake took 4 wickets for just 11 and narrowly missed out on a hatrick. A stumping off the tidy bowling of Mick Stone & a run out left Shinfield at 84 for 9 after 24 overs and the match was all over bar the shouting. So as Neil Stevenson tied up one end it was left to Alex Aubry to bowl the last man and seal a good 30-point win for Thatcham.

Thatcham win by 114 runs and pick up a maximum 30 points (20 for the win, 5 batting points and 5 bowling points).
