Thatcham Sunday 1st XI v. Marlborough
Border Sunday League
Thatcham 269 – 0 (36 overs) beat Marlborough 193-4 (48 overs) by 76 runs
Edirieera 184*
Cottingham 72*
Sri Lankan star Bradman Ediriweera set a new Thatcham individual scoring record when he powered his way to an unbeaten 184 in Sundays Border League clash with Marlborough.
Having won the toss, Thatcham took full advantage of a fine track as Ediriweera and Ian Cottingham despatched a lacklustre Marlborough attack to all corners of Brownsfield. Ediriweera was imperious in his treatment of the bad ball and with Cottingham (72 not out) sensibly accumulating at the other end a mammoth total looked certain.
Sensing the one sided nature of the contest and with the opening partnership still in tact, Thatcham skipper Billy Beaumont opted for an early declaration with the total a daunting 269 off just 36 overs.
Marlborough never looked capable of troubling the Thatcham total, but wickets proved hard to come by for the home attack. Chris Broad (2-28 from 9 overs) reaped greatest reward, ably supported by Beaumont’s 0-15 from 8 miserly overs. Marlborough’s innings finally closed on 193-4 providing Thatcham with a resounding 76 run victory.
