Thatcham’s 1st XI maintained their 100% Border League record with a resounding victory at Marlborough on Sunday.
Against an attack lacking any real bite, Thatcham set an imposing total with Bradman Ediriweera (116) once again the mainstay of the innings. The classy Sri Lankan powered his way to another fine century including 18 fours and 2 sixes and with the help of Liam Redmond’s chanceless 42 not out, Thatcham declared on 241 for 6 from 41 overs.
A heavy downpour saw Marlborough’s innings reduced to 31 overs and at 107 for 1 the Wiltshire side were still in with a chance of reaching their revised target of 182. The introduction of spin however soon put paid to any lingering hopes as both Ediriweera and Chris Bird extracted considerable turn from the rain affected wicket. Whilst Ediriweera was unlucky to finish wicketless, Bird (6 for 15 from 6 overs) took full advantage of the conditions as a succession of Marlborough batsmen offered little resistance. The innings finally closed on 132 for 9 giving Thatcham maximum points and moving them a step closer to another Border League title.
