Match report With no Ali Naqvi or Duncan Johnson, Thatcham travelled to mid table Maidenhead & bray searching for a victory to keep their promotion hopes alive, but they came away with a defeat & only 8 points to show for their efforts. To make things worse, news of Harefield’s 25 point victory filtered through later in the evening, meaning a small miracle is required next Saturday to overhaul the 13 point gap between the two sides.

Stand in skipper Dan Stone, won the toss and bowled. Maidenhead & Bray made a steady start reaching 80 for 0 from the first 20 overs as chances came & went for Thatcham who once again did not seem themselves in the field. The bowlers toiled hard in their quest for wickets with Nick Bishop & Chris Bird claiming three wickets apiece, however they were eclipsed by the impressive Andy Harland (15-47-3) making his first appearance of the season after his appearance in the Tour de France.
Maidenhead & Bray closed their innings on 205-9 from their 52 overs, a target the Thatcham batsmen thought was well within their grasp.

Their chase started solidly, reaching 32-0 from the first 10 overs, but a couple of quick wickets & some tight bowling meant that runs were hard to come by. Some solid batting from Danny Williams (36) Steve Wyatt (26) & Matt Denness (31) meant the game was evenly poised with ten overs to go, Thatcham required 74 runs with 6 wickets in hand.
In the quest for the victory & with the required run rate creeping up the lower order had to play their shots knowing that only a win would do and this proved to be Thatcham’s undoing. Jamie Young (38) & Jack Andrews (22) played well & got Thatcham tantalisingly close but they ended 12 runs short with 5 balls remaining as the final 5 wickets fell for only 20 runs.
