Taplow v Thatcham Town Cricket Club Thatcham 1XI- Saturday on Sat 10 Jun 2023 at 1:00pm
Thatcham Town Cricket Club Won

Match report Thatcham got back to winning ways as they won comfortably in the heat at Taplow on Saturday.

Having lost a 5th toss in a row, Thatcham were asked to field first on a flat pitch and quick outfield. The Trout’s knew they were going to have to work hard to restrict the hosts who got off to a flyer, Daglish making 37 and Nasir 28. It was the introduction of spin which turned the game in Thatcham’s favour. The experienced Hemming and Bird bowling beautifully in partnership to first dry up the Taplow scoring and then chip away at the Taplow top order. Bird struck first, before Hemming ripped through the middle order, claiming the next 4 victims. A couple of small partnerships grew, but Thatcham stayed on top and then took their chances when they arrived. Brown continued the spinners good work taking 4 wickets, including a spectacular catch from Klichowicz on the boundary. From 50-0 after 9 overs, Thatcham had managed to turn the game around and bowl Taplow out for 182 in the 50th over. A great effort, with all ten wickets falling to spin. Hemming the pick of the bowlers returning 4-44 and well backed up by Bird (2-42) and Brown (4-38).

Despite the good pitch and fast outfield a good start with the bate was key to Thatcham’s chase after last weeks woes. The returning Klichowicz and Wheeler provided just that, putting on 50 in quick time. Klichowicz being the aggressor as he unravelled multiple cover drives for 4. It was therefore a surprise when the Thatcham opener was bowled for 31 from the spin of Uddin. Brown soon followed Klichowicz back to the pavilion as he was bowled for 5. Rochfort and Wheeler continued to push the score along as the pair looked very assured. 90-2 quickly became 91-4 however as Wheeler departed for a well made 42 and then Young was removed without troubling the scorers. The inform Denton-Powell rebuilt with Rochfort and the pair batted beautifully as they went about knocking off the 90 runs required. Thatcham looked like they were breezing to victory before Rochfort was adjudged LBW for 38. Jamie Young joined Denton Powell at the crease and the pair calmly knocked off the last 20 runs inside the 43rd over, with Denton-Powell going to a well deserved 50.

A great response by the Trout’s after last weekend’s disappointment. They will be looking to win again on Saturday against White Waltham, with George Wheeler in charge in captain Young’s absence.
