Thatcham Town Cricket Club Thatcham 2XI- Saturday v Hayes on Sat 04 Jul 2009 at 1.30pm
Thatcham Town Cricket Club Lost by 5 wickets

Match report Thatcham II finished the first half of the season with their sixth defeat in nine matches as Hayes chased down 236 to win by five wickets with eight balls to spare.

Felix Hartley- Russell and Simon Rider made a solid start, adding 37 in 12 overs before the former was bowled for 15 by Wayland. Stuart Newman threatened briefly until he miscued to point where Sawant took a fine catch.
The major partnership of the innings now formed as the returning Rakesh Patel joined Rider. Patel looked like he hadn’t been away as boundaries flowed from his bat while Rider batted in his normal fashion, nudging and nurdling but also ensuring nothing loose went unpunished.
They added 80 when Rider fell for a fine 59 and, Patel apart, the innings then stuttered somewhat towards the end. Patel raced to his century with 11 fours and five sixes but fell next ball to Singh for 101. Robb Fraser threatened briefly but Singh (6-41) had him caught for 13 and a total of 236-9 was at least twenty short of where Thatcham should have ended up.

Hayes were positive from the start although it helped bring about the first wicket as a fine piece of fielding from Stephen Bird saw Ramneth run out for 3. Green came in and immediately set about the bowling, taking on a shot a ball. The introduction of John Williams saw the back of Funnell and Tim Mahoney got some reward as Sawant skied one to mid on.
Williams then tempted Green to mishit to long on where Nick Monger took an excellent running catch to dismiss him for 44 and at 69-4 Thatcham sensed victory.
Unfortunately Pedersen and Hayes captain Simon Green had other ideas and with Thatcham unable to raise the run rate they were able to bat almost risk free with the help of some sloppy fielding from the home side.
The bowling was regularly changed and although the bowlers did a decent job no breakthrough could be made. The partnership passed 140 before Green was caught off Mahoney for an excellent 86 but his job was done as only 20 more were needed, reached comfortably with Pedersen 54 not out. Mahoney finished with 2-63 and Williams 2-58.
