Chenies & Latimer v Thatcham Town Cricket Club Thatcham 2XI- Saturday on Sat 18 Jul 2009 at 1.30pm
Thatcham Town Cricket Club Lost by 3 wickets

Match report Thatcham II lost by three wickets to second placed Chenies & Latimer but had only themselves to blame as two dropped catches probably cost them a much needed win.

Put into bat Simon Rider departed early but Iain Cottingham and 17 year old Tom Mahoney once again batted very well together. They both started slowly, no surprise there for the senior partner, before they started to increase the rate as their partnership passed 50.
The introduction of Aussie quickie Issacs concentrated the minds and Mahoney was keen to take him on. Cottingham finally miscued to mid off for 30 before Mahoney passed fifty for the third time this season, bravely continuing after a nasty blow to the hip. Unfortunately Issacs now found some good rhythm and dismissed Rakesh Patel and Mahoney (52) in the successive overs.
Chris Rochfort (15) tried to steady the ship but when he departed it was left to the last three to try to take Thatcham to a defendable target. Perry Moore (11), Tim Mahoney (14 not out) and Matt Taylor managed to sneak up to 172- 9 from 52 overs.

Thatcham started well with the ball as Tim Mahoney and Moore each made an early breakthrough. The crucial wicket though would be Issacs and he presented a straightforward chance on six but unfortunately it was parried over the boundary for six.
Mahoney picked up a second wicket but Issacs and Norwood moved the score along. Rider came on and had Norwood caught and bowled second ball and when John Williams trapped Issacs lbw for 58 Thatcham were back in with a chance. Unfortunately the second dropped catch now came as May, on 0, edged to slip but Fraser grassed a pretty easy chance.
May went on to finish 35 not out and although Moore managed two more wickets it came too late. The game finished in a bit of controversy as the weather closed in. With Chenies having taken 3 hours 35 minutes to bowl 52 overs Thatcham would have been well within their rights to leave the field but the lure of one more point meant they stayed out but the home side got home seven down with seven balls to spare.
Moore was the pick of the bowlers with 3-47 from 14.5 overs and he was well supported by Tim Mahoney, 2-37, Williams 1-27 and Rider 1-17.
With the probability of three sides being relegated Thatcham really need to get some wins to stay in Division 3B.
