Slough II v Thatcham Town Cricket Club Thatcham 2XI- Saturday on Sat 22 Aug 2009 at **12.30pm** Earlier start time
Thatcham Town Cricket Club Lost by 53 runs

Match report Thatcham II’s chances of staying in Division 3B are now out of their hands following a defeat at promotion chasing Slough II’s.

The home side elected to bat and made a flying start as Ahmed immediately went after the bowling. Thatcham were not helped by the loss of Paul Jenkins who injured his knee after just five balls and had to leave the field, to be replaced by his watching father who did an admirable job in the field.
Edmund Edge broke through when Ahmed was well caught by Rakesh Patel in the gully for 25 and when Jamshed was run out in the next over Thatcham thought they were back in the game. Unfortunately Bhatti and Kasthuri- who survived a chance on 14- had other ideas as they went relentlessly after everything adding 117 in 18 overs.
Thatcham lost another bowler when John Williams injured his ankle and had to leave the field for treatment for 12 overs. This forced Robb Fraser to try his long forgotten medium pace and he got rid of Bhatti for 71 in his first over. Thatcham stuck to their task well in difficult circumstances but Kasthuri moved to an excellent hundred before holing out off Edge for 105.
Khade (25no) and Ahmed (21) kept up the assault before the declaration came in the 45th over at 286-7. Fraser with 4-49 and Edge 2-68 were the pick of the toiling Thatcham bowlers.

With 55 overs to get the target Thatcham went out in confident mood. Simon Rider and Gavin McDonald made a solid start, adding 47 in 12 overs before the former was lbw for 11. However, with some tight bowling making boundaries difficult to come by Thatcham needed to turn the strike over but weren’t able to do that and the loss of McDonald for 35, falling to a run out in typical Australian fashion, Stuart Newman and Rakesh Patel meant the score slipped to 90-4 with 30 overs left.
Youngsters Tom Mahoney (19) and Jamie Young started to rebuild but with the run rate rising risks needed to be taken and a succession of players fell going for big shots and the eighth wicket- effectively nine with Jenkins only going to bat if Thatcham got close to winning- fell on 165.
From here though Young cut loose with men round the bat, passing his maiden second team fifty and racing on towards a century. Perry Moore (12no) offered calm support as they tried to score the 16 an over required for victory. Young played some fine shots all round the wicket but Sharrath got one to bounce and he was unfortunately dismissed for 99 as Thatcham were all out for 233 from 52.1 overs.
