Match report Thatcham 3RD XI held on for a draw at Purley despite restricting the home side to 223-8 on a belter of a pitch.
Electing to bat on their home pitch Purley were soon scoring at 5 per over as openers B.Hall (28) and J.Heasham (36) led the way. A double bowling change saw Malcolm Bloor (2-44 ) reduce the flow of runs and with Josh Winfield claiming (4-35) saw Purley falter to 129-5. Skipper Gavin Raw then rode his luck by smashing (53) to take Purley to 223 -8 from their allotted overs.

In response Thatcham made steady progress against Cox (2-55), with Martin Keep looking particulary fluent, useful contributions from Andy Stephenson (16) and Connor Southgate (17) were made , but Thatcham were in need of the big partnership that never came and once Keep fell for (60) the innings began to falter and then stumble to 123 -7. Jack Young then joined skipper Bloor (14 not out ) to see Thatcham home to safety, with Young showing maturity way beyond his years to finish unbeaten on 19 and Thatcham on 153-7 from 48 overs.
A disappointing total considering the quality of the playing surface.
