Datchet III v Thatcham Town Cricket Club Thatcham 4XI- Saturday on Sat 30 May 2009 at 1.30pm
Thatcham Town Cricket Club Lost by 3 wickets

Match report Thatcham nearly pulled off a great battling win against a good Datchet team. After winning the toss Thatcham skipper Liam Redmond elected to bat first in the hope of passing the 200 run mark and setting a good total. However, on a pitch that asked a lot of questions of the batsman and a good Datchet bowling attack the Thatcham batsman struggled. Neil Stevenson knuckled down under a lot of friendly but regular sledging and hit a solid 36 before being bowled by a great ball from the Datchet first change Hussain, who maybe surprised even his own team mates with the pace and accuracy that he bowled. Skipper, Redmond and Eddie ‘cheeky’ Wylie looked to rebuild the innings in the middle order, but after going for 22 and 27 respectfully the innings was all but over and it finished on 156 all out.

However, the bowling attack that Thatcham had and the way the Windsor track was playing Thatcham were in confident mood at tea of being able to bowl the home team out. The innings got off to a great start for Thatcham with opening pair Gavin Ansell and Pete Donnelly bowling with a great accuracy and asking a lot of questions of the Datchet top order. Thatcham reduced the opposition to 43 for 4 wickets in the 15 over with 2 wickets a piece for Ansell and Donnelly and both teams sensed that Thatcham could be on course for a memorable first win of the season. The quick wickets only seemed to spur on the Datchet number 4 White on and he picked off the bad balls and started clawing things back for his side. The Thatcham bowlers continued to plug away and Tom Owen bowled a fine spell of spin, often leaving the batsman with no answer on how to play him. Owen was unlucky to finish with only 1 wicket having a couple of chances dropped of his bowling that Thatcham would normally expect to take very comfortably, especially as both times it was the number 4 White who rode his luck and seemed to be like a cat with 9 lives who ended up scoring 106 out of Datchets winning total of 157 for 7.

If Thatcham had of managed to reach the 200 run mark and or held their chances it may have been a different story. Once again the fight shown by Thatcham and the team spirit was excellent and the first win on the season can only be around the corner.
