Match report Nothing went to plan for Thatcham IV on Saturday as they were beaten comprehensively by a better Bagshot side.

Thatcham lost the toss and were asked to bowl. Unfortunately the Thatcham bowlers found it hard going as the Bagshot openers put on 203 for the first wicket, Grinstead the batsman to fall, run out by Andy Stephenson for 139. As Thatcham continued to rotate the bowlers in order to get another wicket, they had to wait until the second wicket partnership had taken the scoreboard to 252 when the other opener, Rice, was dismissed for 59 in the 44 over, bowled by Andy Stephenson. The bagshot captain declared on 276 for 2 after 46 overs, leaving Thatcham 54 overs to reach the target set.

Unfortunately, things got off to a slow start with the Bagshot bowlers keeping to tight lines and lengths. The first wicket fell in 10th over, Paul Sharp dismissed for 2. After this wickets continued to fall at regular intervals, to a mixture of bad shots and good bowling and fielding. Only two Thatcham batsman got any runs of note, Mick Stone scored 25 at the top of the innings and Dave Wells clubbed a quick 24, taking Thatcham over the 100 run mark, before they were eventually all dismissed for a very disappointing 104 runs.

After another disappointing day for Thatcham IV in this 2009 season, they must try and lift their spirits for next week and keep striving for the first win of the season.
