Thatcham Town Cricket Club Thatcham 4XI- Saturday v Chesham III on Sat 20 Jun 2009 at 1.30pm
Thatcham Town Cricket Club Lost By 130 runs

Match report Thatcham IV vs Chesham III – 20th June 2009

Thatcham lost the toss at Henwick on Saturday and the away captain for Chesham elected to bat first.

Thatcham captain Liam Redmond made an early breakthrough getting the Chesham number two caught at square leg by Tom Owen for 8, but after this Thatcham found wickets hard to come by, which unfortunately has been the case for much of the season. Redmond changed his bowlers at regular intervals trying to get that important second wicket, which eventually came in the form of the often underrated bowling arm of Adrian Bromhead when he removed Mohammed for a superb 124. Bromhead, quickly out thought the new batsman on only his second ball, having him caught at slip by the agile Mick Stone for a duck, but by this time Chesham were already on 228 off only 38 overs. The incoming batsman were given free range when coming to the crease and the Chesham captain eventually declared on 272 for the loss of 6 wickets after 45 overs. Bromhead finished with figures of 7 overs, 1 maiden, 3 wickets for 35 runs. He was ably supported by young leg spin bowler Tom Owen who finished with 2 wickets for 63 runs from 10 overs.

After another superb Thatcham tea the home openers Mick Stone and Dave Taylor took the crease with 55 overs to bat. It couldn’t have got off to a worse start when Taylor was run out without facing a ball. With runs hard to come by against some tight bowling the home team started loosing runs at regular intervals. Simon Chapple entertained the crowd with a quick fire hard hitting 18, but when we fell, the 8th wicket of the innings to go down with the score only on 80; it looked like it was going to be another tough week with Thatcham coming out of it with little to show. However, this wicket brought the young seam bowler, Paul Holland to the crease. He joined the experienced Nik Stewart at the wicket and they went about frustrating the Chesham team. It only took a very dubious decision to break the partnership up as Stewart was given out lbw for 27 as the away teams wicket keeper was diving down the leg side trying to stop the leg by. Holland was the last man out with the score on 142, bowled by the returning opening bowler, Butt for 29, which included some majestic cover drivers.

Thatcham face another tough clash this Saturday as they travel to top of the table Fleet 2s, who are so far unbeaten this season.
