Thatcham Town Cricket Club Thatcham 4XI- Saturday v Fleet II on Sat 29 Aug 2009 at **12.30pm** Earlier start time
Thatcham Town Cricket Club Lost by 52 runs

Match report On a typical English summers afternoon Thatcham put up a great fight against top of table Fleet in their Division 7b encounter.

On winning the toss Fleets skipper elected to bat first in search of the 25 points that would hopefully mean they would be crowned Division Champions. They got off to a great start as both openers posted half centuries. Roddy Allen bowled well and claimed 2 wickets from his 6 overs. Nathan Redmond, Andy Stephenson, Neil Stevenson and Owen Jenkins all bowled well and claimed 1 wicket each as Fleet went onto post 269 for 6 declared from 47 overs.

After tea the Thatcham batsman went about trying to chase down the imposing total set by their opponents and Mick Stone (35) and Nathan Redmond (38) got the home side off to a great start as they put on 67 for the first wicket. However, as both batsman fell in quick succession it started the Thatcham batting collapse that has been an unfortunate regular occurrence for West Berkshire side this season. They went from 67 for 0 to being 85 for 5 and it looked as if the game would be over early. However, Eddie Wylie (44), fresh from his superb stint behind the stumps in the first innings joined his captain Liam Redmond (50) at the crease and they set about trying to bring some respectability to the home sides score. Redmond looked to carry his recent form on and looked very comfortable at the crease, pushing the ones and twos and punishing any bad balls by sending them to the boundary. As the partnership progressed Wylie’s confidence increased and he started to open up and play his shots. Redmond was adjudged lbw just two balls after bringing up his half century and unfortunately Wylie followed soon after, to expose Thatcham’s young tail. Paul Holland (16), Roddy Allen (8) and Owen Jenkins (2 not out) did well to steer their team over the 200 mark and claim maximum batting bonus points, but the experienced Fleet bowling attack were too much for them and Thatcham’s innings closed on 217 runs as Holland was the last man out.
