Windsor IV v Thatcham Town Cricket Club Thatcham 4XI- Saturday on Sat 05 Sep 2009 at **12.30pm** Earlier start time
Thatcham Town Cricket Club Lost by 5 wickets

Match report Thatcham’s fourth eleven rounded off their season with a spirited performance against Windsor’s fourth eleven. A good game played in great spirit was a fitting way for the season to end for the West Berkshire side as, even in defeat the team played well and showed the club in great light.

On winning the toss Thatcham’s skipper Liam Redmond had no hesitation in having first go at batting on what looked a good track. After a shaky start and some bad running between the wickets that saw Dave Taylor depart for 6, Micky Stone (55) and Kieran Lynch set about building a solid partnership for Thatcham. When Stone’s superb innings was brought to an end by the Windsor captain Andy Doree, it saw another Thatcham mini collapse as young, promising Windsor bowler Olly Jordan ripped through the Thatcham middle order claiming 3 wickets for 22 runs from 10 overs. However, Eddie Wylie (41 not out) joined Lynch (82 not out) at the crease and they calmly set about taking Thatcham past the 200 target and in the process setting Windsor 209 for victory.

The Windsor innings got off to a flying start courtesy of a quick fire partnership of 81 that saw Allam getting the majority of the runs with a hard hitting 53, which was only stopped as the Nathan Redmond out thought his opponent with a slower ball that brother Liam calmly caught on the mid off boundary. Neil Stevenson quickly claimed another Windsor wicket, but Johal (40) joined Ward (46) at the crease and they kept the scoreboard ticking over and their team on track for victory. The introduction of veteran Tony Wimbush broke the partnership as he took the wicket of Ward with his first ball, Liam Redmond claiming another good catch at mid wicket. However, Houghton (37) carried on where Ward had left off and with defeat looming Redmond tried chopping and changing his bowlers in search of another bonus point or two. The decision to introduce Dominic ‘The Dominator’ Melville into the attack paid off as he claimed 2 quick wickets, Liam Redmond taking his third catch of the innings at deep mid off and Nathan Redmond taking a sharp catch at mid wicket. Even with Melville’s great spell off 3.3 overs, 2 wickets for 16 runs the home side got home with 5 wickets remaining and 9.3 overs left in the bank.
