Match report A strong Thatcham side played Falkland on a sunny but a windy day at brownsfield. Thatcham won the toss and decided to put Falkland in to try and take the advantage of the new ball. Gavin Ansell and Matt Taylor opened the bowling, both bowled well but no success. The next change bowlers of Nathan Redmond and Rob Lewis also had no success against the opening batters of Falkland who were steadily playing themselves in to get them to a good score. So at the drinks breaks of the innings they were 99 without loss after 21 over’s. But after the drinks breaks the game changed in favour of Thatcham with the introduction of spin at both ends with John Williams and Steve Bartholomew. Both bowled their 9 over`s very well with Williams making the first breakthrough with the very first ball after the drinks break. He continued to bowl well and was rewarded with other 3 wickets and a run out. Bartholomew at the other bowled well and he was rewarded with 2 wickets of his own. When they had bowled their over’s Ansell and Redmond were brought back on to finish the innings with the latter grabbing two wickets and Ansell one. So Falkland was bowled out in 39. 4 over’s for 182.
Thatcham opened the batting with Bob Gadsden and John Williams. Bob went early for 0 when he got bowled and that brought Jaime Young in to bat. Him and Williams batted well, building a partnership to get Thatcham going in the innings with Williams playing some good shots to get the run rate up while Young was just at the other end rotating the strike. When Young was Lbw that brought Bartholomew to the wicket he continued in the same vein. Williams finally departed caught behind for 89 but he and Bartholomew had done all the hard work and Thatcham only needed other 21 in 15 over’s. Eddie Wylie came in and hit the winning runs to secure a well deserved win for Thatcham with 10.2 over’s to go.
A good all round performance from everyone but particularly from Williams and Bartholomew with both bat and ball.
