Match report Thatcham had a very important 5 wicket win over Royal Ascot at home.

Winning the toss Ascot elected to bat, which they may have regretted losing 3 wickets in the first 7 balls for 1 run. Mike Green had Andy English caught Nick Bishop first ball of the innings. Green then got James Gamble caught Rhys Williams off his third ball of the over. Josh O’Flynn had Nick Sweetman caught keeper Jamie Young off the first ball of his over. Gary Clarke and Charlie Dunnett then dug in and built a partnership of 44 when Dunnett was lbw bowled Bishop for 19. Andrew Murray joined Clarke and they added 39 when Murray was caught Jamie Young off the bowling of Chris Bird for 22. Joshua Jayasingh together with Clarke built a partnership of 32 until Jayasingh was caught Jack Young for 12 off the bowling of Bird. Clarke’s defence was finally broken by Bird getting him caught by Green for a patient 56. Will Ellison was run out by Jack Young for 14. Bishop then wrapped up the Ascot innings having Mike Brown caught by Jack Young for 1 and Kevin May stumped by Jamie Young for 0. Sam Daniel remained 9 not out.

Ascot innings closed 142 all out in 52 overs.

Peter Spriggs and Ben Denton-Powell opened up the batting for Thatcham and made a solid start putting on 72 for the first wicket until Denton-Powell was caught and bowled by Murray for 30. O’Flynn added 22 with Spriggs when he was caught by English off Murray for 14. Williams joined Spriggs, adding 1 run before Spriggs became Murray’s third wicket getting trapped lbw for 33. Jack Young had put on 37 with Williams when Young was caught Sweetman off the bowling of May for 9. With just 7 required Williams was stumped by English bowled Jayasingh for 29. Steve Bartholomew and Tom Mahoney together got Thatcham over the line, both remaining not out on 12 and 0 respectively. Thatcham reached their target in 41 overs with 5 wickets to spare.
