Bagshot v Thatcham Town Cricket Club Thatcham 1XI- Saturday on Sat 29 May 2021 at 11:30am
Thatcham Town Cricket Club Won by 62 runs

Match report A thrilling 71* off 39 balls from all-rounder Gilmour saw Thatcham to their first win of the season away at Bagshot on Saturday as they cruised to a 62 run victory.

Having won the toss, Thatcham elected to bat. O’Flynn and Williams looked to get the visitors off to a flyer as they pounced on anything loose. Bartlett then pegged things back for Bagshot as he removed both openers with the score on 36-2 after 7 overs. Jack Young and Spriggs looked to rebuild the innings as they rotated the strike and put away the bad balls. The pair put on 80 before a loss in concentration from Young saw him gift his wicket away as he was caught for 39. Jamie Young, returning to the team after recovering from his dislocated shoulder in April, joined Spriggs and the pair pushed the score along nicely. With 12 overs left, Thatcham were well placed at 187-3. Spriggs then fell as he looked to up the run rate for a very well made 67. There was then a flurry of quick wickets as next Young fell for 38, followed by Mahoney and Bird for 1 and then Moore for 4. Thatcham collapsing to 226-8. Gilmour was still at the crease though and he bided his time before making a brutal late assault on the Bagshot attack which included 6 sixes. Bartlett the unfortunate bowler as Gilmour dispatched his final over for 32. The last 11 balls of Gilmour’s innings saw 44 runs, as he ended on 71* and Thatcham’s innings closed on 281-8.

Thatcham knew a tight opening spell would go a long way to them winning the game. It was man of the moment Gilmour (2-23) who took the new ball and bagged the first two wickets as he had Grinstead LBW for 5 and Doyle (0) caught behind by Young. Moore impressed again, backing up his debut performance as he picked up the next two wickets and Bagshot were in a hole at 58-4 off 20 overs. Dunnage and Hollely looked to counter act for the hosts as they momentarily got on top of the Thatcham bowling. The introduction of Bird (1-53) saw an end to Dunnage’s resistance. A breezy 52 from Gandhi saw the visitors needing 100 off the last 15 overs for an unlikely victory. O’flynn put any chances of that to bed however as an impressive spell of bowling saw him take 4-40 as ripped through the lower-middle order. The returning Moore (3-26) finished off the innings as he had Hollely bowled in the 46th over.

A fantastic all round display from Thatcham and they will now look to back the performance up next week as they welcome Wokingham to Brownsfield.
