Match report Thatcham suffered their first defeat of the season as they were beaten by Reading’s second string on Saturday.

Thatcham found themselves bowling first again after losing he toss and reduced the visitors to 50-4 thanks to some fine bowling. Moore and Green opened the bowling and produced a fine opening 10 overs, beating the bat on many occasions. Bartholemew and wheeler picked up from where the openers left off and thatcham could smell blood. A fine partnership between Reading’s two best players pushed he score up to 151 before an excellent bit of fielding to run out the reading batter by Denton Powell broke the partnership. Chima carried on his merry way as he brought up his 100 in the 44th over. Thatcham continues to take wickets the other end and reduced reading to 178-9 from their 45 overs.

The trouts chase got off to a terrible start as young was bowled in the second over. Brown and the in form Klichowicz built a partnership before brown was given out LBW. Wheeler survived an early chance but was next to go for 4 and when Bartholemew soon followed, thatcham were in trouble. Klichowicz and Jamie young looked to build a partnership before the former was bowled for 42. Denton Powell helped to push the score a long and Thatcham looked back in control reading a run a ball 50 with 5 wickets in hand. Young was then struck on the hip and given out LBW which gave reading the breakthrough they needed. Copeman followed soon after and the game was almost done asDenton Powell fell soon after as the pressure built. Bird and Green then both perished to give Reading victory.

Thatcham will look to bounce book at Finchampstead next week and continue their overall positive start to the season.
