Match report Thatcham fell to a heavy defeat on Saturday away at Cove.

Fielding first in the heat Thatcham got off to the perfect start as Moore found the edge of the Cove opener. From then on in it was one way traffic as Cove made Thatcham pay for multiple missed chances. A 192 stand for the second wicket put Cove in complete control of the game. Despite it not being Thatcham’s day, the team stuck together and toiled away. Moore picked up his second wicket and then Bird and Brown added a further 5 between them, although Cove still put up a total of 300-8 off their 52 overs. Considering the start Cove got off to and the pitch, Thatcham felt this was only 20 over par and so did the hosts as they chose not to declare and use all of their allotted overs.

Thatcham’s reply got off to a shaky start as Wheeler was adjudged LBW for 0. Brown and Klichowicz put on 90 in quick time to get Thatcham back in the game. Just as Thatcham looked to up the rate the Trout’s lost 2 quick wickets with Brown and Klichowicz both departing for 47. A middle order collapse reduced Thatcham to 112-5 and from there they were not able to recover as they were bowled out for 172.

Not to be for Thatcham this week but they look to bounce back in the local derby against Newbury next weekend. A victory will see the Trouts back in the promotion hunt.
